Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers:
| A. Teachers demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology. |
| NETS Standard I.A. Mastery |
| From my very first course as part of this master's program, I have had to demonstrate an introductory knowledge of technology. I feel that doing so makes me more knowledgeable and more confident when working with my students and colleagues. I created my first PowerPoint in Foundations of Educational Technology. While I no longer have this presentation, I have had made others including the PowerPoint presentation for a technology that we need now. I didn't actually present at a school board meeting, but I was part of the district technology committee which adopted digital copiers as a cost-effective alternative to the traditional laser printers. I have students create PowerPoint presentations, so it is necessary that I am able to do so as well. Along with the actual PowerPoint, spreadsheets can be used. I can do simple ones using Excel. I have also made a template for a class roster. I created this because our current grade book program does not allow teachers to create a class list. I have shared this template with my colleagues so that they can copy their class lists to a spreadsheet. I have also created a sign-up sheet for the language lab. I also take every opportunity to attend technology in-service. I have learned how to use the digital camera, how to make a document PDF using the digital copier and many more. I am currently enrolled in an in-service for updates in Microsoft Office. |
| B. Teachers demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies. |
| NETS Standard I.B. Mastery |
| With the world of technology changing faster every day, one cannot rest
thinking they have "arrived." What works today, may not be good
enough for an ever-changing world. I have found that I need to change with
it. I have grown so much as a part of this program as well. One of the first
things I created for Foundations of Educational Technology was an online
resume
using HTML. One of my first attempts is not a very pretty sight. However,
the resume
I have created for my online portfolio certainly shows growth. I have continued
to use my coding skills as I took Introduction to Web Development all the
way through to my Portfolio Development. My strides to better website creation
can be seen in my first website,
practice
assignments, and my current classroom
website. My skills can also be seen in the WebQuest
I created as well as this portfolio.
Using Microsoft Publisher I created a newsletter
demonstrates my continued growth in the use of technology.
To keep abreast of current and emerging technologies, I keep in touch with my media specialist who shares new technology with me. I am also a member of FLAM (Foreign Language Teachers of Missouri). When I attend their conferences, I learn new ways to incorporate technology into a foreign language classroom. I have also created an action research plan which demonstrates my ability to locate new technology resources. I have also found the Internet to be a great resource for such technologies. These resources include: ISTE, From Now On, and FLTeachWWW to name a few. While taking Diffusion of Educational Technology, I found that reading MSNBC.com offered a wealth of information concerning new technologies. I hope to have more time to implement the many things I have learned and created when I am finished with my degree. |
