Columbia Public Schools is concerned about its impact on the environment.  The district is using a number of strategies to help educate and reduce its carbon footprint, including recycling, the use of green-labeled goods, and energy conservation.

What we're doing

Recognition we've received
  • The Environmental Protection Agency's 2010 National Great Start Award, which recognizes school districts that are in the initial phases of implementing the Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Program
  • The Green Cleaning Award for Schools & Universities, sponsored by American School & University magazine, The Green Cleaning Network, and the Healthy Schools Campaign, which recognizes education institutions for exemplary green cleaning programs
  • Benton, Blue Ridge, Fairview, Parkade, and Russell Boulevard elementary schools have received Energy Star Awards from the Environmental Protection Agency, placing them in the top 90th percentile of all schools in the country for energy performance
