Procedures for Identifying and Assessing ELL Children

  • All students complete a Language Questionnaire upon enrollment.
  • If the Language Questionnaire indicates there is another language spoken in the home, the student is referred to the ELL coordinator or ELL teacher in that building.
  • The ELL coordinator or ELL teacher assesses the student's English proficiency using the Rainbow Assessment at the elementary level, the LAS at the secondary level, or teacher-made tests at all levels.
  • The ELL coordinator or ELL teacher makes placement recommendations.
